Applications Open for 2026 Barry Wint Scholarship (Students in Health-related Field Encouraged to apply)

The Ministry of Health & Wellness is now accepting applications for the 2026 Dr. Barry Wint Memorial Scholarship Programme. Students and healthcare professionals, who are pursing studies in health-related fields can get up to a million dollar per year of study to support their academic pursuits. Deadline for application is Friday, July 10, 2026.
Named in honour of former Chief Medical Officer Dr. Barry Wint, the scholarship programme supports the Government's commitment to strengthening Jamaica's public health workforce by investing in the education and training of healthcare professionals in priority areas.
Minister of Health & Wellness, Dr. the Hon. Christopher Tufton, CD, MP, said the programme continues to address critical human resource needs within the health sector. "The Dr. Barry Wint Memorial Scholarship Programme is an investment in the future of Jamaica's healthcare system. By supporting the development of highly skilled professionals in specialized fields, we are strengthening our capacity to deliver quality healthcare services and improve health outcomes for all Jamaicans," the Minister said.
This year's scholarship offering supports studies in the following priority areas:
Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing: MSc Nurse Practitioner — Family; MSc Nurse Practitioner — Psychiatric; MSc Nurse Practitioner — Clinical; MSc Nurse Education; MSc Nursing Administration; Public Health Nursing; MSc Nurse Anesthesia; Critical Care Nursing;
Ophthalmic Nursing; Midwifery/Maternal and Child Health Nursing (not open to those entering 1st year at the undergraduate level);Bachelor of Pharmacy (2nd year to 4th year only); Doctor of Pharmacy — UWI (3rd year to 5th year only); MBBS (3rd year to 5th year only); Doctor of Medicine — MD (3rd and 4th year only); Dental Hygiene; Dental Public Health; UWI Mona Post-Doctor of Medicine Fellowship (Neonatology, Nephrology, Gastroenterology, Cardiology, Maternal-Fetal Health)

Graduate and postgraduate students are eligible to apply, and successful recipients will be bonded to work in the public health sector for a stipulated period upon completion of their studies.
