Emergency Health Specialist Honoured by Medical Association of Jamaica

Director of Emergency, Disaster Management & Special Services in the Ministry of Health & Wellness, Dr. Nicole Dawkins-Wright has been named the President’s Award Recipient. This honour was bestowed at the recently held Medical Association of Jamaica (MAJ) 60th Anniversary Charity Banquet and Awards Ceremony.
This distinguished award represented one of the highest recognitions bestowed by the Medical Association of Jamaica and celebrates Dr. Dawkins-Wright’s outstanding leadership, unwavering commitment to public health, and exceptional contribution to the advancement of healthcare in Jamaica.
In honouring her the MAJ noted that "Her exceptional work is a living testament to her core professional mission: forging a resilient health system equipped to handle an ever-evolving array of threats. She boldly lived out this mission in her daily service, describing herself as 'a committed health care specialist and current public health practitioner driven to contribute to nation-building through the direction of programmed activities that increase the resiliency of the health system in order to optimize health care delivery for health protection and medical treatment in emergency and disaster situations.”
Dr. Dawkins-Wright has been a dedicated public servant since completing her specialist education in Emergency Medicine at the University of the West Indies in 2003. Appointed Director for Emergency, Disaster Management and Special Services in the Ministry of Health & Wellness in 2018, she brought more than two decades of critical experience to the health sector. Her extensive expertise enabled her to effectively lead and coordinate responses to national emergencies and public health challenges, strengthening the country's preparedness and resilience.
Throughout her career, Dr. Dawkins-Wright demonstrated remarkable dedication to strengthening Jamaica’s emergency preparedness and response systems, disaster management frameworks, and special health services. Her strategic leadership, professionalism, and passion for service played a pivotal role in safeguarding the health and well-being of Jamaicans, particularly during times of national emergencies and public health crises.
In extending his congratulations, Minister of Health & Wellness, Dr. the Hon. Christopher Tufton said, “I give my highest commendations to Dr. Nicole Dawkins-Wright on this remarkable accomplishment, and I thank her for her continued dedication to improving the health and well-being of the Jamaican people.”
The President’s Award recognized individuals whose service, impact, and commitment had significantly influenced the medical profession and the wider health sector. Dr. Dawkins-Wright’s selection for this honour was a testament to her exemplary work ethic, visionary leadership, and enduring contributions to healthcare delivery and national resilience.
