The Ministry of Health & Wellness will observe Dental Auxiliary Week 2026 from May 3 to 8 under the theme “Open Wide, Byte into Technology,” highlighting the critical role of innovation in strengthening oral healthcare delivery across Jamaica.
The observance forms part of the Ministry’s ongoing strategic efforts to improve access to quality oral health services, enhance workforce capacity, and modernise service delivery through the integration of technology and continuous professional development.
Dental auxiliaries including dental nurses, hygienists, assistants, and technicians play a vital role in the national healthcare system. As frontline providers, they support prevention, early detection, and management of oral diseases, while also delivering essential education that empowers Jamaicans to make healthier lifestyle choices.
This year’s theme reflects the Ministry’s policy direction to leverage digital tools and emerging technologies to improve efficiency, accuracy, and patient outcomes within the oral health sector. It also underscores the importance of equipping dental professionals with the skills and knowledge required to adapt to a rapidly evolving healthcare environment.
As part of Dental Auxiliary Week, a series of activities will be held to support professional development and community engagement. The observance will begin with a national church service on May 3, followed by the 28th Annual Conference on May 4, which will focus on continuing education and advancements in dental practice. Activities throughout the week will also include staff wellness initiatives and islandwide outreach programmes across all Regional Health Authorities, aimed at increasing access to oral health services and promoting preventive care.
The Ministry continues to prioritise improvements in oral healthcare delivery through targeted investments in training, expanded community outreach, and strengthened public education campaigns. These efforts are aligned with broader national strategies to reduce the burden of oral diseases and improve overall health outcomes.
Jamaicans are being encouraged to take an active role in maintaining their oral health by practising proper hygiene, reducing sugar intake, and seeking regular dental check-ups.
The Ministry of Health & Wellness commends dental auxiliaries for their dedication and service, recognising their indispensable contribution to building a healthier nation.
