Held under the theme “Health for All in a Changing Environment,” the conference brought together researchers, healthcare professionals, policymakers, academics, and partners to share findings, exchange ideas, and explore innovative solutions to Jamaica’s evolving health challenges. Presentations and discussions focused on critical priority areas including Non-Communicable Diseases, demographic changes, men’s health, sexual and reproductive health, artificial intelligence and robotics in healthcare, and workplace wellness.

At the closing ceremony, the Ministry awarded the outstanding researchers who were recognised for excellence in scientific communication and innovation. Awards were presented for: Best Student Oral Presentation, Most Impactful Oral Presentation, won by Dr. Marcia Johnson; Best Overall Oral Presentation, awarded to Mr. Devon Keith; Best Overall Poster Competition, Dr. Adrienne Williams; Best Student Poster Presentation and Most Impactful Poster Presentation won by Dr. Amanda Pringle.

These awards highlight the quality, relevance, and impact of research being conducted within Jamaica’s health sector and academic institutions.

Minister of Health & Wellness, Dr. the Hon. Christopher Tufton, CD, MP praised the contributors and underscored the value of research to national development during his keynote address on the opening day (Wednesday, February 4).

Health research is essential to building a resilient and responsive health system. The quality of work presented at this year’s conference demonstrates the depth of talent and commitment within our research community. I congratulate all the awardees and commend every participant for contributing to evidence that will help shape better health outcomes for the Jamaican people,” the Minister said.

The Minister also expressed appreciation to the National Epidemiology Branch, reviewers, conference organisers, and partners whose efforts ensured the successful execution of the annual Conference.

As the Ministry looks ahead, it is encouraging researchers, healthcare workers, and students to continue engaging in research and to submit abstracts for the 17th National Health Research Conference to be held November of this year. The Ministry emphasized that broad participation is key to strengthening innovation, informing policy, and improving healthcare delivery across the island.

The Ministry of Health & Wellness remains committed to fostering a strong research culture that supports informed decision-making and advances the goal of equitable, high-quality healthcare for all Jamaicans.
