Healthcare Workers Lauded with Governor-General's Achievement Awards

Four outstanding healthcare workers have been named recipients of the 2026 Governor-General's Achievement Award, underscoring their commitment to excellence, leadership, and service to the Jamaican people.

The awardees, representing the parishes of St. Ann, St. James, Manchester and Hanover, were recognised for their exceptional contributions to healthcare, public service, community development and national advancement.

Among the recipients is Mr. Karl Brown, Social Media Specialist, Ministry of Health & Wellness who was selected by the St. Ann Governor-General's Achievement Awards Committee. Brown has transformed the Ministry's digital communications through innovative public health campaigns that have reached millions of Jamaicans. Beyond his professional achievements, he has mentored communication professionals, led youth outreach initiatives, and mobilised support for vulnerable communities during times of crisis.

Also recognised is Dr. Marcia Johnson-Campbell, Regional Priority Non-Communicable Diseases Coordinator/Family Health, Western Regional Health Authority who received the award from the St. James Committee. A respected public health leader, physician and Justice of the Peace, Dr. Johnson-Campbell has dedicated decades to improving healthcare delivery, mentoring young professionals, and serving communities across western Jamaica. Her commitment to lifelong learning culminated in earning a Doctor of Public Health degree with High Commendation at the age of 57.

Representing Manchester/Southern Regional Health Authority is Mr. Cashave Shaw, an Enrolled Assistant Nurse, whose inspiring journey of perseverance and academic excellence earned him the prestigious honour.

Shaw completed his Bachelor of Science degree with First Class Honours in just two and a half years while also obtaining numerous professional certifications.

His resilience and unwavering commitment to personal and professional development have made him an inspiration to colleagues and community members alike.

Completing the list of Healthcare workers is Mrs. Remona Wilson-Grant, Community Health Aide, who was recognised by the Hanover Committee. Wilson-Grant graduated with First Class Honours in Midwifery from the University of Technology Jamaica, after overcoming significant personal and financial challenges. Alongside her academic excellence, she has demonstrated exceptional leadership and compassion through community outreach, maternal and elderly care, and initiatives recognising the invaluable work of Community Health Aides.

The Governor-General's Achievement Award recognises Jamaicans who have distinguished themselves through outstanding achievement, leadership, resilience, and service to their communities. This year's honourees from the Ministry of Health & Wellness exemplify these ideals, demonstrating that dedication to public service continues to transform lives and strengthen communities across Jamaica.
