The Ministry of Health & Wellness has officially reopened the Oxford Community Health Centre, restoring and strengthening primary healthcare services for approximately 4,700 residents in Oxford, Free Hill, and surrounding communities.

The facility underwent a comprehensive renovation valued at $46.9 million, executed by Chin’s Equipment, Rentals & Construction, to improve infrastructure, patient comfort, and staff working conditions. The upgrades included expanded clinical areas, improved sanitation facilities, enhanced security, and modernization of utilities and equipment.

At the reopening ceremony, Minister of Health & Wellness, Dr. the Hon. Christopher Tufton, emphasized the importance of partnership in delivering community healthcare.

“Healthcare transformation is never achieved by Government alone it is built on partnerships,” the Minister said, acknowledging the role of the United Church in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands in securing the land for the facility.

The renovation also supports expanded access to services, with curative clinics increasing from one day per month to five, a move expected to improve access to care and reduce unnecessary hospital visits.

Highlighting the broader impact of the investment, Minister Tufton noted:

“This is not merely cosmetic enhancement. It is modernization that improves safety, infection control, efficiency, and overall service delivery.”

The Ministry reaffirmed that investments in community health infrastructure remain central to improving health outcomes, strengthening prevention, and ensuring equitable access to care across Jamaica.
