Vision for the Ministry of Health & Wellness: “The modern healthcare landscape of the Ministry of Health and Wellness should take a transformative approach to service delivery, one that not only meets the clinical and mental needs of patients but also safeguards the wellbeing of healthcare providers. My vision is to foster a healthcare system that is both client-centred and practitioner-centred that recognizes that sustainable, high-quality care can only be achieved when the workforce delivering that care is also supported, empowered, and resilient.” It is in this context that I craft my vision for the MOHW.
Healthcare professionals operate in high-pressure environments, often absorbing the emotional and physical demands of caregiving. Without proper structures in place, such as mental health support, manageable workloads, opportunities for professional development, and a culture of appreciation, staff are vulnerable to burnout, compassion fatigue, and disengagement. These issues not only affect the personal health of practitioners but also directly impact the quality and safety of patient care.
Thus, my vision is grounded in the principle that well-cared-for providers deliver better care. We must intentionally design systems that balance the needs of patients with those of practitioners. This includes embedding mental wellness initiatives, fostering a culture of mutual respect, and ensuring that practitioners are involved in decision-making processes that affect their work. When we create an environment where both patients and healthcare workers feel seen, heard, and valued, we strengthen the very foundation of our healthcare system.
What do you enjoy about your job: I love people, therefore every opportunity to interact with, or counsel individuals brings on feelings of joy and fulfilment. I love that I can accommodate and serve people in their most fragile and vulnerable states. I also enjoy meeting and working with other caregivers in the field who share a similar passion.
Favourite Childhood Memory: Going for mangoes with my cousins at the back of my grandparents’ house. We would return with bags and buckets of mangoes.
Favourite Colour: Purple
Dream Vacation: Visiting the Republic of Maldives. It is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen.
